My girlfriend is pissed off and I don't understand why..?

I have been talking to a girl for about 2 and a half months now, long distance. I was in the process of moving to another state and starting a new job when we first started talking so we haven't met yet. We have plans to meet next week. We have had some intimate conversations and we are very attracted to each other. She has been saying she wants to make love during the time we see each other. I told her let's just take it slow and see what happens. I had mentioned to her that sometimes rushing into sex is a bad idea, and she said she did not understand that, and subsequently asked me if she really wanted it, and tried to have sex with me, would I stop her. I said I think maybe we should just chill and enjoy each other the first time we meet and that way it will build up more of a connection for the next time. She was very upset when she heard this. She became short, and seemed very offended. She said that she does things her heart and mind tells her, and if it feels right, she is going to do it. I did not mean to offend her, I just feel like we shouldn't have sex the first time we meet. I'm trying to do things differently nowadays as in my younger years I would have jumped right in the sack. Why is this so offensive to her? I thought a girl would find that more noble but she seems to be the aggressor here and it's making me very uncomfortable. I am very much in love with this girl and I don't want to screw it up, should I just give her what she wants?? I've never had a girl get pissed off because I didn't want to have sex right away?? I'm a little confused here
